The Session
All Presbyterian churches are organized along the lines of a representative democracy. A group of ordained Elders (identified here at First by their name tags), elected from and by the congregation, set First Presbyterian’s policies, guided by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Book of Order and with guidance from the pastor. The pastor is called to serve by vote of the congregation, as opposed to being appointed to the congregation by an outside authority. Elders and the pastor together constitute the Session, the governing body of First Presbyterian Church.
